We are proud to inform you that, once again, the Club Nàutic Estartit has obtained the Blue Flag, a symbol that reflects our commitment to sustainability and the environment. Thus, this year 2024, Catalonia has a total of 95 beaches and 23 ports awarded with this prestigious distinction.
How is the Blue Flag obtained?
The Blue Flag is awarded by the International Blue Flag Jury of the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), an organization dedicated to promoting environmental awareness and education worldwide.
Each year, this jury grants these recognitions to maritime spaces that excel in environmental management, safety in bathing areas and facilities, as well as the quality of bathing water.
Catalan coastal municipalities voluntarily submit their beaches and ports for the jury’s evaluation to demonstrate their commitment to environmental preservation and the well-being of users. The evaluation process includes criteria such as beach cleanliness, water quality, sanitary and safety facilities, etc. In other words, they must meet the standards set by the FEE.
The Benefits of the Blue Flag
It’s important to highlight that the Blue Flag extends to 51 countries across the five continents and establishes itself as an international symbol of quality and sustainability in coastal areas. This recognition benefits municipalities and their residents and promotes responsible tourism as it attracts visitors seeking to enjoy nature in a respectful and sustainable manner.
Thus, the beaches and ports of Catalonia adorn our shores with the Blue Flag, as a symbol of excellence in environmental management and a commitment to preserving natural spaces for future generations.
