Charlie Dalin makes history at the Vendée Globe 2024

French sailor Charlie Dalin has made sailing history by winning the Vendée Globe 2024. After 80 days, 3 hours, 45 minutes and 12 seconds of solo sailing around the world, Dalin crossed the finish line in Les Sables d’Olonne as the winner of this edition of the most demanding race on the planet. This achievement not only confirms his talent and determination, but also sets a new record in the competition.

With an impeccable strategy and a great ability to adapt to extreme weather conditions, Dalin has managed to prevail over other great rivals. His experience and skill have been key to maintaining a steady pace and withstanding the challenges of a non-stop, unassisted round the world race.

Women’s leading role in the Vendée Globe 2024

The 2024 edition of the Vendée Globe has also highlighted the increasingly significant role of women in this ultra-endurance race. Justine Mettraux and Clarisse Crémer were two of the sailors who made their mark on this edition with their talent and perseverance.

Justine Mettraux finished the race as the first woman in the rankings, proving that women have a fundamental role to play in offshore sailing. For Mettraux, her success is not only a personal achievement, but also a symbol of progress and inclusion in the world of competitive sailing. ‘There is no difference in the way men and women sail. What is important is preparation, experience and mental toughness,’ said the Swiss sailor.

On the other hand, Clarisse Crémer closed her participation in a meritorious 11th place, reaffirming that offshore sailing is a sport in which talent and determination overcome any gender barrier. Her participation is an inspiring example for future generations of sailors, who increasingly have more and more female references in this demanding sport.

An event that continues to make history

The Vendée Globe 2024 has been a memorable edition not only because of Charlie Dalin’s record-breaking victory, but also because of the growing prominence of women in the competition. This regatta, considered the Everest of the seas, continues to be a stage for equal opportunities and self-improvement, where each participant, regardless of gender, must face the same challenges and extreme conditions.

At Club Nàutic Estartit we celebrate this spirit of self-improvement and perseverance that defines the Vendée Globe and inspires sailors from all over the world to continue pursuing their dreams on the high seas.
