Discovery of Cod Flavors: A Gastronomic Experience at Club Nàutic Estartit

Last weekend, Club Nàutic Estartit transformed into the stage of a true culinary celebration with its gastronomic day dedicated to cod—the third of the year! This experience, which has already established itself as one of the most anticipated events on the club’s social activity calendar, offered participants an exceptional tasting of this fish, highly cherished in Mediterranean cuisine.

A Tribute to Cod with a 360º Experience

Under the guidance of maître d’hôtel Joaquim Silva and his talented team of chefs, participants had the opportunity to savor a series of innovative and exquisite dishes where cod was the star ingredient. The goal? To explore all its gastronomic possibilities and discover new flavors and textures capable of captivating the palate. This event was a true demonstration of the versatility of this much-appreciated ingredient in both Catalan and international cuisine.

The Gastronomic Day of Cod

The gastronomic day of cod was enjoyed by a total of 35 people. The assortment of dishes began with a xatonada, a typical salad from Penedès and Garraf that combines escarole, shredded cod, tuna, anchovies, and olives, all seasoned with the characteristic xató sauce, made with almonds, hazelnuts, ñoras, garlic, oil, and vinegar.

Next, cod croquettes were served—small portions of dough made with desalted cod, breaded and fried, achieving a crispy texture on the outside and a creamy interior.

The third dish was bacalhau à Brás (golden cod), a traditional Portuguese recipe that combines shredded cod with scrambled eggs and matchstick potatoes, all sautéed and garnished with parsley and black olives.

Then, ajoarriero-style cod was tasted, a preparation of Castilian and Navarrese origin in which cod is cooked with garlic, red pepper, tomato, and onion, resulting in a flavorful dish with a tender texture.

To finish, for dessert, a cheesecake was served, adding a sweet touch to a day dedicated to this versatile and well-appreciated ingredient.

A gastronomic success that left no one indifferent

The Cod Gastronomic Day has established itself as a must-attend event for fine cuisine enthusiasts. Participants not only had the chance to savor spectacular dishes, but they also had the opportunity to learn more about the different cooking and preparation techniques for cod.

The combination of meticulous presentation, unmatched flavor, and a warm atmosphere made this day an unforgettable experience. And, as seen in the event photos, the aesthetics of the dishes were just as impressive as their taste!

Traditional dishes such as “morue à la llauna,” cod with samfaina, or “esqueixada” perfectly illustrate how this fish has become a pillar of Catalan gastronomy. Furthermore, cod pairs perfectly with Mediterranean ingredients such as olive oil, tomatoes, garlic, and peppers, offering authentic and unique flavors. In recent years, avant-garde cuisine has reinvented cod with new techniques and creative presentations. Thus, cod remains an undisputed protagonist of Catalan cuisine, combining tradition and gastronomic innovation.
