Committed to Sustainable Sailing

Located on the Costa Brava and facing the Medes Islands, Club Nàutic Estartit is not only a meeting point for sea lovers; it is a living commitment to sustainability.

We actively promote sustainable sailing and responsible anchoring, protecting our unique environment for future generations.

Montgrí, Medes Islands and Baix Ter Natural Park

The Montgrí, Medes Islands and Baix Ter Natural Park is a protected area that stands out for its geological diversity, ecosystems and unique habitats. From the imposing formations of Montgrí to the pristine waters surrounding the Medes Islands, every corner of this natural park invites to be discovered and respected.

The Medes Islands

The Medes Islands are an archipelago of seven islands that emerge as a sanctuary of biodiversity in the Mediterranean. This nature reserve is home to one of the richest marine flora and fauna communities in the region.

Protecting this ecosystem is vital to maintain the ecological balance and natural beauty that characterises them.

Sustainable Navigation

Sustainable sailing plays a crucial role in preserving the biodiversity and natural beauty of the Costa Brava. This conscious approach to the sea and its environment allows us to enjoy sailing while minimising our ecological impact.

Posidonia

Posidonia oceanica is more than just a plant; it is the green lung of the Mediterranean and the cradle of unparalleled marine biodiversity. Its underwater meadows play a crucial role in the oxygenation of the water and in the protection of the coasts against erosion, being fundamental for the health of our seas.

Responsible Anchoring Zones

Our protected environment includes established responsible anchoring zones, which are clearly marked to minimise the impact of recreational boating on the seabed and ensure the preservation of biodiversity, especially in critical areas such as Posidonia meadows.

Responsible Anchoring Tips

Anchoring responsibly means protecting our natural environment. From choosing suitable locations to techniques that minimise impact, we will guide you every step of the way to ensure a minimal ecological footprint.

Plan your anchorage

Before setting out, plan your route and identify permitted anchorage areas. Use nautical charts and marine applications to identify sandy areas, avoiding posidonia meadows and other sensitive habitats.

Before dropping anchor, make sure the area is suitable and free of marine vegetation such as posidonia.

Use anchors that minimise damage to the seabed, such as plough anchors or anchors that are designed to have minimal impact.

When anchoring, allow the anchor to drop gently and ensure that it is properly set before releasing all chain to reduce the possibility of dragging the anchor along the bottom.

If you are in an area where you cannot avoid dropping your anchor over vegetation, look for alternatives such as eco-friendly anchor buoys.

Don’t throw rubbish or trash in the water. Take everything you brought with you and, if possible, pick up any rubbish you find to leave the place better than it was.

Keep a safe distance from marine animals. Interaction with wildlife should be kept to a minimum so as not to disturb their natural behaviour.

Encourage your fellow boaters about the importance of responsible anchoring. Sharing knowledge and best practices contributes to a more sustainable maritime community.
