Espai Medes inauguration: a new hub to discover and cherish the Natural Park

On Saturday, April 5, the port of l’Estartit was the setting for a very special event for our region and, especially, for all those who love the sea and natural heritage: the inauguration of Espai Medes. The new interpretation center dedicated to the marine life of the Montgrí, Medes Islands and Baix Ter Natural Park is now a reality.

Located within the docks of the Club Nàutic Estartit, at the central quay, this new facility aims to raise awareness, educate, and inspire emotions about the rich marine life found so close to us, especially around the Medes Islands, one of the Mediterranean’s most precious ecological treasures.

A project with a scientific, educational and sustainable focus

Espai Medes offers an immersive and interactive experience designed for all audiences. Through high-quality audiovisuals, touch screens, 3D recreations, and interpretive models, visitors can explore what life is like under the sea, understand the ecological balance of the Natural Park, and learn about the effects of climate change on marine ecosystems.

This space was created to raise awareness about the importance of protecting marine habitats, highlight the biodiversity hosted by the Medes Islands, and reinforce the commitment to sustainability throughout the port and nautical environment of l’Estartit.

Local drive with a global vision

The project was promoted by Ports de la Generalitat, with the collaboration of the Town Hall of Torroella de Montgrí – l’Estartit, the Natural Park, and the Diputació de Girona. During the opening ceremony, the Minister of Territory, Juli Fernàndez, highlighted Espai Medes as a prime example of synergy between the region, scientific knowledge, and sustainable development.

In addition, Espai Medes is designed to enhance the town’s educational and tourism offering, through school workshops, guided tours, and complementary activities that will foster a more respectful relationship with the marine environment and strengthen our commitment to the Blue Economy.

A new neighbor for Club Nàutic Estartit

At Club Nàutic Estartit, we warmly welcome the arrival of this new facility. We share with Espai Medes a love for the sea and the desire to make nautical activities respectful, educational, and connected to our surroundings.

We encourage all our members, visitors, and sea lovers to come and discover Espai Medes, a space that invites us to look beneath the surface and understand the great responsibility we all have to care for our environment.
