The Costa Brava is famous not only for its stunning beaches and coves but also for its rich history and picturesque medieval villages. At Club Nàutic Estartit, we invite you to discover these charming villages while enjoying our coastal beauty and the activities offered by our Activity center.

A tour of medieval villages to discover the Costa Brava

We begin our tour of the Costa Brava with the picturesque village of Pals, located in the heart of the Baix Empordà region. This place is famous for its cobblestone streets that wind through a magnificently preserved Gothic quarter, all surrounded by a medieval wall. Walking through Pals is like taking a journey back in time. Its streets reflect the history and atmosphere of the Middle Ages. To complete this cultural immersion, the local restaurants offer traditional dishes that will delight the senses.

We continue our journey to Begur, a gem with a rich historical heritage. Its castle and 16th-century defense towers are testimonies to the region’s historical past. This village is not just about history; it also boasts nature and the sea, with idyllic coves like Aiguablava and Sa Tuna. These enclaves are perfect for enjoying a relaxing day and exploring their crystal-clear marine waters. Here, history harmoniously combines with natural beauty.

Peratallada is the next village on our list, and it’s a stop that cannot be missed. Declared a Historic-Artistic Site, this place is one of the most outstanding examples of medieval architecture in Catalonia. Its narrow streets, 10th-century castle, and defensive towers transport visitors to a bygone era and offer a peaceful and captivating experience where every corner hides a fragment of history.

Monells, with its arcaded main square and the church of Sant Genís, is another must-see stop. This village exudes a welcoming calm, perfect for a relaxing stroll. Monells’ well-preserved architecture offers a window into medieval life, inviting us to enjoy a coffee in the square while we contemplate the beauty of the past.

Palau-Sator, with its intact medieval ambiance, is another essential destination. The castle, the remains of the walls, and the iconic Torre de las Horas (Clock Tower) evidence the rich past of the village. The Rural Museum is a recommended visit to learn more about the traditional life of the area. Walking through Palau-Sator is enjoying the tranquility and charm of a place where time seems to have stood still.

Cruïlles awaits us with its majestic church of Santa Eulàlia, which houses a Gothic altarpiece and impressive Romanesque paintings. The keep of the castle is another point of interest not to be missed. This village, quiet and steeped in history, is ideal for lovers of religious architecture.

Finally, we arrive at Madremanya, with its churches of Sant Esteve and Sant Iscle. Located near the Baix Empordà, this village offers spectacular views and an atmosphere of peace and serenity. Madremanya is the ideal place for those seeking a quiet getaway and a deep connection with the religious history of the area.

This tour of the Costa Brava takes us to discover the historical and cultural richness of the Baix Empordà, a journey that allows us to appreciate the beauty and serenity of these charming villages.
