Ports de Catalunya promotes respectful and sustainable navigation with the release of a new guide

Respectful navigation presents itself as an environmental imperative. Nowadays, sailing is not just a pleasant activity but also involves a great responsibility towards the environment. Our maritime environment suffers the harmful effects of pollution and overexploitation, and irresponsible navigation can significantly contribute to the degradation of marine ecosystems, the loss of biodiversity, and the destruction of the valued coastal landscapes.

With this background and aware of the social and environmental responsibility of the nautical sector, Ports de Catalunya-ACPET launches a new guide titled ‘ECONàutic: Sustainable and respectful recreational navigation‘ which is a direct response to the need to promote greater awareness of good practices in navigation.

ECONàutic: Sustainable and respectful recreational navigation

This work has as its main objective to raise awareness among sailors about the importance of sustainable and respectful navigation with the environment. Composed of 23 sheets, the guide uses close and direct language, as well as attractive illustrations, to offer detailed advice on responsible behavior both in ports and at sea; and to remind of those practices that minimize the environmental impact of navigation, such as responsible waste management, sustainable energy use, biodiversity protection, and coastal landscape conservation.

The intention is that these recommendations are easily understandable and applicable for all sea users.

The fundamental role of Ports de Catalunya-ACPET

With the publication of ‘ECONàutic: Sustainable and Respectful Recreational Navigation’, Ports de Catalunya-ACPET want to mark a turning point in the perception and practice of navigation in Catalonia. This guide provides practical and useful information and also symbolizes a firm commitment to sustainability and environmental protection.

Additionally, Ports de Catalunya-ACPET has also designed comprehensive communication campaign to promote sustainable navigation. This strategy includes the disseminating of the guide’s messages through social networks, media, and sectoral presentations. In this way, the content will reach all sea users: from sports sailors to fishermen and tourists.

The Club Nàutic Estartit, committed to sustainability and the environment since our inception, is proud to be part of this initiative. With this project, we hope to inspire all sailors to adopt more sustainable navigation practices, thus promoting a culture of respect and care for the marine environment. By adopting good environmental practices, we will ensure that future generations can enjoy the seas and coasts in the same way we do today.
