Today we have celebrated our long-awaited calçotada!

As every year, during the calçots season, the Club Nàutic Estartit organizes one of the most anticipated gastronomic events for members and friends: a fantastic calçotada at the CNE! This gathering not only allows us to enjoy a delicious meal but also helps us keep alive one of the most emblematic traditions of our Catalan culture.

This gastronomic event was enjoyed by a total of 54 people, who started the day’s menu with delicious homemade butifarras from Rupià, followed by exquisite Cabrales croquettes and a poultry consommé with poached eggs. The star dish could only be the calçots with romesco sauce (900 units in total). This traditional Catalan dish is one of the most anticipated at any calçotada, thanks to its authentic flavor and artisanal sauce. As the main course, we offered Iberian pork strips, a tender and juicy bite that delighted every palate. Finally, the sweet touch was provided by a requesón flan from Fonteta, a soft and creamy dessert that left everyone with a smile on their face. It was the perfect ending to a unique gastronomic experience, full of authentic flavors and locally sourced products.

The tradition of calçots

Calçots are a variety of tender onion, and the way they are cooked is what makes them so special: they are grilled over an open flame until the outer layer is completely blackened, then peeled by hand and dipped in romesco or salvitxada sauce, a blend of almonds, hazelnuts, roasted tomatoes, and other ingredients. Calçots are highly appreciated in Catalan cuisine, especially during the winter and early spring season. Their unique cultivation and preparation methods set them apart from other types of onions. These elongated sprouts are grown in a very specific way: as they grow, soil is gradually added to their base, allowing them to develop in a long and tender shape, giving them their characteristic slender form and mild flavor.

A lunch to remember

This year, the Club’s calçotada has been a complete success! The restaurant manager, Joaquim Silva, and his fantastic team prepared an exceptional menu at the Club’s restaurant, offering attendees an unbeatable gastronomic experience. The calçots, tender and perfectly flame-grilled, were accompanied by a delicious homemade romesco sauce that delighted everyone.

A tradition we want to preserve

This is the second gastronomic event in our social activities calendar, and we know it is a very special occasion for everyone. Not only do we enjoy a delicious meal, but we also celebrate our culture and roots. For us, it is very important to preserve these traditions and pass them on to new generations so they can continue to experience and appreciate Catalonia’s rich gastronomic heritage.

Moreover, a calçotada wouldn’t be the same without the fantastic atmosphere it creates. Seeing club members, friends, and families sharing laughter, competing to see who eats the most calçots, and enjoying this festive gathering fills us with joy. There’s nothing more fun than having a great excuse to get your hands and face messy without any worries!

Club Nàutic Estartit will continue working to offer unique experiences and activities that strengthen the community and the sense of belonging, just as it did at the Club’s restaurant.
